What is the importance of Website Backups?

Introduction

Website backups are essential for your website due to the risk of different issues it can go through. Various things could happen to a website such as a malware attack, losing data, or accidentally deleting. In these cases, website backups are essential. Website backups are a copy of your website in files kept in a secured place such as File Explorer, Google Drive, or One Drive.

Types of Backups

There are various types of website backups such as Full, Incremental, and Differential. Each one of the backups has its own purpose. They are all made for backing up a website but each type has a different way of backing up the data of the website.

Full Backup

Full backup means that your whole website is saved in one file whenever you back up your website. This type of backup saves everything such as media files, and the database of your website. Full backup takes up more storage and it takes more time to complete compared to other types of backup since it saves everything on a website. This backup confirms that everything that you have on a website is securely saved in a file. A full backup is one of the easiest and most useful backups and a full backup is very important for a website that has various things in it such as important images, data, or files.

Incremental Backup

Incremental backup means that it saves only the updates made after the last time the website was backed up. Incremental backups take less storage and time compared to full backups. This type of backup is essential and useful for websites that have constant updates such as social media websites because these types of websites frequently update. Incremental backup does not copy the entire data every time, instead, it stores only the newly made updates. This backup is specially designed for websites that have very big databases, and it is like updating a new document with the only changes made after it was last updated.

Differential Backup

Differential backup means that it saves only the things that have been changed after the full backup. The difference between a differential backup and an incremental backup is that a differential backup only saves changes after a full backup, and incremental backup only saves changes after a backup but it does not matter whether it is a full or incremental backup. Differential backups are important for websites with large content such as NBC News or any other news website, blogs, or educational platforms such as Schoology or DCTS website

No Backup?

Different things can happen if you do not backup your website such as losing everything on your website or having to rebuild the entire website. Users or people who gave the developer to create a website want their website on time with full functionality but if the developer makes an error then it can cost them their reputation and time.

Conclusion

All in all, backups are very essential for a website and what type of backup you want depends on the type of your website. Anyone who has a website whether for a business or personal portfolio needs to have a backup for their site to prevent any problems.
